My name is Danny Gantchev. I am originally from Eastern Europe and moved to the states in 97’. I have been in college for the past few years, but it was not until last year that I really started to focus on what degree I wanted. I plan to become a photojournalist. More specifically I want to be a war photographer or at least cover conflicts for a little while.
I am in this class because I really want to learn and grow as a person, especially with photography and photojournalism.
I’m not sure I have a definition of news. I suppose one could traditionally define news as information given out to the people so they can be informed. However at the same time News can just be information that has become important in someone’s life, but I will keep the first definition of how I perceive news and its purposes.
I do not see any particular news organization to be more ethically fit than any other. Overall, I
see ethics as a completely subjective topic. One person’s view on a matter differs from an others,
meaning one person will manipulate photographs and another will not. Personally, I do not
manipulate photographs. As a photographer I like to present what is really out there. Others want
to see something else, so they may manipulate photographs to accomplish their goals. I have
thought about the damage this causes, and I do not like it, but I realize it for what it is. Faking
photographs/events takes away from photojournalists who really do have a skill and do their best
to show you what really happens. What can you do?

I do as well as anyone else have an effect on the news business. It’s a matter of how you document a story. To me, this question reminds me of another philosophical problem: Can you, as one individual, really make a change alone?
Very thought-provoking! It's clear you don't see photojournalism organizations as absolutionists, meaning there are no fixed, clear rules ALL newsrooms follow. Classes like this can only help guide you when it comes to being ethically and legally fit. Good job.
